Welcome to THE HOME.SEWN HOMEMAKER- an integrated makers and bakers platform where we will discuss the importance of a period.  I will let you decide which one.

I want to take a minute and talk about STRESS.  We have all experienced it- and I am pretty sure that we all hate it.  It totally rules our lives and destroys our self-esteem.  Stress can cause you physical pain and mental fatigue.

So what exactly is "stress"?  Everyone has their own idea of what it is (and what it does), but what does it mean?

Dictionary.com defines stress in multiple ways: "importance attached to a thing", "the physical pressure, pull, or other force exerted on one thing by another; strain", and "the action on a body of any system of balanced forces whereby strain or deformation results".  Pretty obvious why this feeling knocks us on our @$$.

Guess what?  There are small things that you can to do combat stress.  To name a few:

  • Meditation.  Yes, it sounds hokey- but have you tried it?  There are thousands of great videos on YouTube.  Try this one.
  • Channel your creativity.  Grab a pen + paper, needle + thread, butter + eggs - and direct all of that energy somewhere that it will flourish.  So what if you end up with a pile of hand towels that say "wash your fucking hands"?  Own it.  You do you, boo boo.
  • Reduce your intake of caffeine + cigarettes.  I know- I know.  "It's the only thing that helps".  Trust us and try to break the habit.
  • Be concious.  Try to keep in mind that the stress is just that, stress.  It is not defining.

With the re-opening of our shop, me (Alyssa) moving across the country, Jessie having two young children, and both of us having other jobs to tend to- stress often creeps its way back into our lives.  And you know what?  Sometimes it wins.   But that is okay- we come out a little stronger every single time.
